Hmm.

Also, I tried to import a recipe that I have in Microsoft word 2007, student edition format. It wouldn't find the recipe but gave me an opportunity to find it. I did locate the recipe and when I clicked on it I got a message that said I probably need the Microsoft Data Access Component, free download, see FAQs. I did that, and downloaded the MDAC. When I started to install, it said that the components in the MDAC are already in my version of Windows. Help! Now I can't even open BO screen. I click open and it takes me to the My Computer screen. I click on Shared Documents, opening up to click on MBO recipes. I click on that and then get the blank page for the recipe that I was initially looking for. I just go around in a circles. Help.

One more thing. one of the things I liked most when I found MBO was that I could determine the nutrients in each recipe. I have noticed that in some recipes the nutrients are not complete because of the way they are written. I'm amazed that I figured that out! But I also notice that some common things are not recognized... Not a problem, if I can enter a new ingredient myself, with all the nutrients for that ingredient. Is this possible? I am on a special diet and it would be absolutely wonderful if that is possible.

I am really excited about learning to use this software, but I am beginning to get a little frustrated and feel like I am already fighting a loosing battle. : (

I hope you can help. Thanks

nutrition not working

i have a recipe for which i'm trying to get the nutrional analysis. this 16 serving recipe has 2 cups of sugar in it. the sugar is a standard ingredient and when i checked it was linked to the USDA info. when i do the analysis, the recipe says it has 51 calories! 2 cups of sugar divided by 16 is nearly 100 calories, something is wrong here. is there something else i need to do to get the ingredients to display the nutritional info correctly?

oh, and by the by, computerized nutritional analysis should not be this cumbersome. i could have looked up each ingredient on the web and figured it out by hand in the time it is taking me to do this. perhaps you could have a tutorial or a new programmer? it is just not, in any way, shape or form, intuitive.

thanks for your time.

Nutritional analysis Seriously Wrong

Something in the nutritional database is seriously messed up! i imported the "Pork Steak Bake" recipe from the website, since it was simple. i tried the auto link, and it did not work, so i linked each ingredient, paying careful attention to the quantities of each, ie grams in the links i was making.

Still, the program tells me that 4 servings of this contain calories: 687257%/13745136 !!!!!!!

seriously, i want to make a crack about this, but 13 million calories is so far off the planet i can't think of anything!

[Poll]

Errors on nutrition analysis

I keep getting HUGE errors in the nutritional analysis of my recipes. I have checked the Nutrient Information for ingredients and they are, for the most part correct (although some of them omit information). I have gone through and added the nutrients by hand and with a calculator and the analysis for the recipe will be off by as much as 5x!

I purchased this program particularly for managing my brittle diabetes and mistakes in the nutrient information can mean a serious medical problem for me.

The program also appears to have great difficulty finding ingredients even though I have used it a dozen times before. When I try to find an ingredient for linking to nutrient information, the program cannot find it so I have to go through full list to find it. I am listing ingredients the way they are named on the list, so there is no reason for this ohter than a bug.

Another thing that is irritating but doesn't render the program unuseable is that I am unable to delete recipe boxes. I have gone to my folders directory and deleted and renamed files but the old files and/or names still show up when I try to open a file.

If there is no fix, please refund my money.

Often, though, the links are bizarre.

I just created a new recipe, starting with 1 1/2 cups of "dried apples".

Bigoven linked this to "RICE,BROWN,LONG-GRAIN,CKD", which has a rather different nutritional profile.

I created that new recipe because I had some big surprises when I imported a granola recipe with the following ingredients:

6 cups regular rolled oats (not instant)
1/3 cup ground flaxseed or chopped walnuts
2 tbsp Canola oil
2 tbsp Honey or brown sugar (or to taste)
1 cup dried fruit: raisins blueberries, cranberries, or papaya
1 1/2 cups dried apples chopped into 1/4 inch pieces

I wound up with the following nutritional links:

"regular rolled oats" --> "GARLIC,RAW" (6 grams)

"ground flaxseed or chopped walnuts" --> "GINGER ROOT,RAW" (7 grams)

"dried fruit; raisins" --> "LETTUCE,COS OR ROMAINE,RAW" (224 grams)

"dried apples" --> "SOY SAU MADE FROM SOY&WHEAT (SHOYU),LO NA" (16 grams)

The canola oil and the honey llinked appropriately.

Why will it link "dried apples" to soy sauce one time and cooked brown rice another?

Is there any setting I can use to tell bigoven not to try so hard?
