Error on Startup

I have downloaded a trial of BO, but get errors on startup. I have 64 Bit Windows Vista

I get an error; see screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/NTk1MWVjN

Now, I have checked and "standard.crb" is in fact where it thinks it is, so why doesn't it find it?

Progressing beyond that, I get more errors...

It says it cannot find "system.mdw", for which it is looking in C:\Users\Public\Documents\My BigOven Recipes\Data\Data\System.mdw (notice how it has two "Data" folders in the path). That file is actually located in C:\Users\Public\Documents\My BigOven Recipes\Data\System.mdw (one Data Folder)

When I click OK to that dialog it takes me to a "Navigate to BigOven Recipes" folder, which I then do i.e I go to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My BigOven Recipes\RBox\Standard, and I again get an error telling me it can find "standard.crb", which as I said before is definitely in that Folder

Finally, I get an error to the effect it can't create file C:\Program Files (X86)\Lakefront Software\bigovenlog.txt

I have also installed MDAC, which in retrospect may not have been smart as further research reveals it's standard with Vista anyway. I am using an Administrator Account and always the same one.

I have uninstalled and re-installed "n" times (cleaning Registry each time), but every time I get this same sequence of problems. The problem seems to be it is looking in the wrong places for files and even when pointed at the right folder(s) and selecting the file it still says the file isn't there. I have also looked for config files to find where it might be getting the wrong path from but haven't been able to find anything relevant.

I'm pretty computer savvy and can work around most problems but this has got me beat

So what should I do now?

Reinstalling on a new Vista machine

I got the program installed and it recognized my previous purchased program serial number.

I cannot find the correct place to copy my recipe files from the old computer. I used the instructions in your FAQ but Vista does not have the same exact file directories. I tried copying them to my documents>(created)MyBigOvenRecipes. I also tried copying them to Users>Public> and that didn't work either.

And if you can tell me the correct place to copy them, and once I do that, how do I get Big Oven to recognize them so they will open like they did on my old computer?

I am still having these same problems too. Is there some specific place that I should be saving the small files? I have tried my documents, public documents, etc. Same matter of the shopping list not updating and the recipe list ending after the first part. I have already made sure that there are no symbols in the recipe names, so that is not the issue. Also, is there a specific limit to how many recipes can be included in the Windows Mobile file?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the suggestion, but it hasn't worked. I have done that now, and even moved the installation location from the mini SD card to the system - no luck.... now what do you think?????

I updated my Big Oven to 1.8.989 deluxe version (it says on the About Section) but I did not unibstall the older version nor have I ever done so (I have VISTA Home Deluxe Version now). Will I have a problem later ? Should I go back and uninstall Big Oven program and re-install it, if so will I loss and recipe info ?

Thank you very much for letting me know about the resizing, no use in hoping for things that aren't gonna happen!

As for the seven letters to type, you are SO right and I now realize that I have been sucked into today's philosophy of always looking for a quicker way to do things, like sacrificing a name to use letters in it's place. Shame on me! Pretty soon, we'll be sitting at the Thanxgiving table and Uncle Charlie will tell one of his typical jokes that isn't funny, just embarrassing and a bunch of us will be saying " L-O-L" while trying not to roll our eyes! But if someone would actually tell a funny joke, some of us will be on the floor, gasping for air and saying "R-O-F-L". Geez, will it actually come to that? I hope not but you just never know!

install on Vista

In Vista Home premium, I installed the trial software as administrator. When I switched one of the standard user account the software said the trial had expired. How do I install the software so it is available to all users? It seems to only work in the admin account.

Resizing program screen?

Hi!

Oh, I am still in love with BigOven!!! I do find a few things that I hope you are going to fix. For this subject I

did research your forums and wasn't really sure if I was on the same page as the others. I do use Vista in

case you needed to know that.

When I open your BigOven program, I have two choices in size. Either filling my whole screen or clicking on

the middle button each time, to make it smaller but not the size I want it. Is there a way to fix this? Most programs

will allow you to drag the borders and insides to where you want them and then when you close the program using

the X in the upper right corner, it will save that size until you change it. But I can't get that to work on BigOven and

it's frustrating. I'm hoping that maybe there is another way to do this because I like to have other things visible while

using BigOven without having to click on the Window's Status bar buttons. And I use another program that puts an

Object bar at the bottom which I am then forced to close to use BigOven. Please tell me there is or that it's in the work?

How often do you do updates?

Another thing, so many times I want to shorten the name when talking about your great program but BO just sounds

rather unpleasant, lol. We have to come up with something better, lol. Maybe slipping "The" at the beginning, making it

then TBO? Hmmmm, maybe that would work, The Big Oven! Ok, I have to stay serious but you're so nice in always

answering questions I've laid on your plate and I've laid quite a few! Thank you for being so patient and helpful, people

like you are in short supply any more after people spend even harder to get money due to the economy but yet so many

companies seem to forget that. But you don't and I applaud you for that.

Ok, I'm sorry, I digressed. I tend to use 50 words when I talk when only 5 are necessary!

So, is there a way to resize the outside size of the screen AND the inside boundaries of the working screen too is my

basic question.

recipe titles too small to see on laptop

i bought a new laptop that runs vista 64 bit. all the recipe titles on the left of the screen are so small i cant read anything. I did figure out how to make the right side larger, but nothing for the left where all of our recipes are. please help~ thank you berrypink

What if you can't open the files in Mastercook? That is my problem and the reason I bought Big Oven software, otherwise I would have stayed with Mastercook. Here's my situation and I will be very upset if I can't get the thousands of recipes out of Mastercook and into Big Oven.

I am running Vista on my new computer. I have the Mastercook files on a removable hard drive and want to (have to) import them from there. I cannot pull them up in Mastercook. When I try I get an error message saying that the cookbook cannot be opened. I already did all the steps that the Mastercook gurus talked about and while I can install Mastercook, I can't open any of my cookbooks. Hence, the reason for buying Big Oven.

With that said, since I only can access these files from my removable hard drive, how can I get them converted from the .mc2 to the correct format to import them? Please, please help I am desperate. Those recipes go back years and many are irreplaceable. Thanks!
