I have used the "Import" button when viewing recipes in BigOven from the "archives" and it has worked on several occasions. But there is this one recipe that everytime I hit the "Import" button, it displays a completely different recipe and the desired recipe does not import. Have tried it several times with the same result. The recipe I am trying to import is Artichoke Pesto Hummus and the recipe that is displayed both in the left nav and in the viewing area everytime is another recipe I have successfully imported, Black Bean, Tomato and Avocado Salad. However, I will try to import another completely different recipe and it works fine. Is there something different about the Artichoke Pesto Hummus recipe that I am not seeing? Thank you!

Re: BigOven import ignores MM headings

You should have a reply and f'attach in email by now. That was a plain batch export, single columns, no fancying it up, straight from Scott Welliver's hands to yours.

Sam

Re: RE: Importing Mastercook formatted recipes issue

No one does. That's most likely an old Meal-Monster file edited by hand, from the days before it supported MMMMM header and footer strings (why MMMMM had to be used comes from a quirk of old Fidonet bbs software). The @ symbol looks to me like someone changing the first few hyphens in the header to @ to get the bbs software not to truncate the message. (I could go into some serious geekery about this, 'cos I've been using MM since the late '80s and wrestled with bbses back when, but let it pass, let it pass.) Just do a mass string replace of @@@@@ to -----, make sure the file's named with an .MMF extension and not something else, and go to town.

Re: How do I import this type of file?

If BigOven's saying "do what?" then most likely one of two things caused it.

1) The Ms in the recipe header and footer are confusing it. Change the Ms to hyphens and try importing again.

2) If you're using MM at the moment, it's probably a file extension issue. MM normally exports its recipes to a file called TRANSFER.TXT. BigOven isn't going to recognize that for what it is. Rename TRANSFER.TXT to something like TRANSFER.MMF or EXPORT.MMF (the .MMF extension is the important bit), and at that point BO should say "Oh! UNTIL.

I imported a hundred recipes from an .MMF (normal, plain, flat-text format, no MMMs or or anything included in headers and footers to confuse the issue) and was way distressed to find that BO had ignored EVERY SINGLE ONE of the MM ingredient section headings! Just blew right past 'em, didn't make the least attempt to incorporate that information. "Bit bucket for you!" seems to be the import routine's attitude.

Is this a bug?
This morning when I opened the program to add a recipe I was prompted to update. I was warned to backup my existing version and then told to delete the existing version and load the new. All fine and good. Now, if I try to import my Standard Recipe Box, it says I can't import into recipe box I am currently viewing. With the Starter Edition I cannot switch to another Recipe Box, or create a new Recipe Box.

Unless someone can give additional information, it appears I either lose the recipes I've input or have to pay to update to the full program.
