Hi!

I´ve tried BigOven for a while now and find it most useful! Now I wonder if there is a way for me to translate for example ingredients to my own language. I found the "Ingredients" under Tools, Options but when I change an ingredients name the old one is still there and I get a new with my own name. I want the change to be reflected in all recipes containing the ingredient that was changed.

Many programs also have a feature to translate the text in the programinterface - how about that?

Ingredients missing on recipe

I posted a recipe for spiked apple cider on 10-31-09. It is recipe number 175563. The instructions said it would take a few minutes for it to appear and when it did, the ingredients list was not shown. I have checked back periodically, but still they are not showing. I checked other posts here and one on editing a recipe said to click on the "edit recipe" button under the recipe name, but I do not see such a button. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Oh, I am using the web-based program, btw.

Add more ingredients to your recipe ingredient list

I purchased the Big Oven program this year after several years using Master Cook. The main frustration I am having with the Big Oven program is the limited list of ingredients as I add recipes to my file. An example would be if a recipe calls for milk, I always use 1% milk, but your program does not have the various types of milk. I like to use the nutrition value aspect of a recipe program so I can adjust recipes to make them healthier. I know Big Oven allows me to add ingredients but I don't always have the nutritional value of the various ingredients right by me as I am entering recipes to my file. Masker Cook has an extensive list of ingredients and I would like to see that added to the Big Oven program. Thank You.

3 problems. printing, importing, and ingredients

I hate to bother you with this, but I truely have looked everywhere I can find in the FAQs and Message Board etc, and I'm getting nowhere.

I printed out my first recipe today and there was absolutely no border on the printout. It was so wide that it cut off all my ingredient amounts. How do i adjust the printing data so that it will print out on 8.5x11 size paper? Hmm.

Also, I tried to import a recipe that I have in Microsoft word 2007, student edition format. It wouldn't find the recipe but gave me an opportunity to find it. I did locate the recipe and when I clicked on it I got a message that said I probably need the Microsoft Data Access Component, free download, see FAQs. I did that, and downloaded the MDAC. When I started to install, it said that the components in the MDAC are already in my version of Windows. Help! Now I can't even open BO screen. I click open and it takes me to the My Computer screen. I click on Shared Documents, opening up to click on MBO recipes. I click on that and then get the blank page for the recipe that I was initially looking for. I just go around in a circles. Help.

One more thing. one of the things I liked most when I found MBO was that I could determine the nutrients in each recipe. I have noticed that in some recipes the nutrients are not complete because of the way they are written. I'm amazed that I figured that out! But I also notice that some common things are not recognized... Not a problem, if I can enter a new ingredient myself, with all the nutrients for that ingredient. Is this possible? I am on a special diet and it would be absolutely wonderful if that is possible.

I am really excited about learning to use this software, but I am beginning to get a little frustrated and feel like I am already fighting a loosing battle. : (

um, shouldn't linking in the database be pretty important, considering how long it would take to try to set this up? a lot of the links seem to be missing because of "custom measures" such as saying 8 drumsticks, rather than 3 lbs of chicken.

also, i'm seeing a VERY large discrepancy between what Big Oven and MasterCook calculate for the same recipe!

i have to assume, since i have to make the links in Big Oven, that that is where the mistake is... and once again i am stuck with not being able to use the program because the nutritional information will not work accurately... i mean this is a HUGE difference!

here's my sample:

Per Serving: 324 Calories; 10g Fat (27.9% calories from fat); 24g Protein; 35g Carbohydrate; 2g Dietary Fiber; 82mg Cholesterol; 89mg Sodium.

Big Oven: [per serving] 749 Calories; 41g Fat (63% calories from fat); 61g Protein; 32g Carbohydrate; 2g Dietary Fiber; 277mg Cholesterol; 563mg Sodium.

Multiple Store Feature

Hello, we have been using the product now for 4 months and are very impressed so far. We have a large family (5 kids) and do a lot of menu planning. With five kids and a single income we do watch where we buy various items. Some thing we purchase at Whole Foods, some at a local grocery store and some at Costco. It would be great if we could enter which store we purchase various items so that when we print out a shopping list we can sort it by store AND deptartment.

Multi-component recipe

I was trying to import some recipes, and found that when I was trying to add a recipe that had several construction steps to it, with different ingredient lists followed by the steps of that part of the recipe, there was no way to accomodate this. Would you have a suggestion as to how to put this in without lumping all the ingredients together?

Ingredients List and Description

Is there any chance of a list of ingredients and maybe a description and photo? Such as today I bought what i 'thought' were normal oranges and they turned out to be 'Minneolas'. I had to do a Google Search. It would be nice to be able to go directly from BigOven (program) or the new Beta site to find the answer instead of a Google search. Perhaps you could do it as a Wiki so that members could add ingredients. Just a suggestion to make it "all in one!"

Shopping list feature request - include recipe name

Hi, I'm a relatively new BigOven user having used Mastercook for years (gave up when I couldn't get the latest version to work on Windows XP despite their "support"!). One really useful feature of Mastercook was printing the recipe name(s) beside each ingredient on the shopping list. This meant that if I took my menu plan with me, I could check fresh ingredient expiry dates against when I expected to use them and didn't end up buying stuff that had to be thrown out before it could be used. Would be fantastic if this could be included as a future enhancement.
