About BigOven's Public Menus

BigOven.com lets you create lists of recipes and share them with other cooks around the world.

We call any grouped set of recipes a menu.

All menus you create are PUBLIC -- they are viewable by other cooks as they browse through the site.

Menus can be used in many ways.  You can create a menu in the traditional sense -- a complete set of recipes meant to be eaten in sequence as a meal.

REMEMBER -- All menus that you create are PUBLIC.  They can be viewed by other BigOven users, and carry your username.  They are intended to help you guide yourself, and other BigOven cooks, to recipe sets you enjoy, or ones that you think are related in some meaningful way.

Just like creating and posting recipes -- don't be shy to offer new ideas, but please remember that you're working in shared space.  We encourage you to create and post menus so that you, and other cooks around the world may benefit upon subsequent visits to the archive.

What Can I Use Menus For?

Menus link related recipes to another for all the cooks who browse BigOven.com.  For instance, you might create a menu organizing a Spring Dinner:

  "Spring Dinner Menu for Four"
Cuisine:  Italian     Main Ingredient:  Pasta
An easy spring menu to serve when the warm days approach.
- Caprese Salad
- Pasta Primavera
- Lemon Sorbet

Or, you might create a thematic group of recipes, like:

Best ways to use up turkey leftovers

  My favorite crockpot recipes

The spiciest dishes I enjoy making

Easy dishes that kids (age 2-10) enjoy

  Great recipes for company

  My favorite picnic recipes

  A complete cocktail Party

Feel free to create however many you'd like.  You're limited only by your imagination.

How Do I Create a Menu?

Simply click the "add to menu" button when you see a recipe you'd like to add, and BigOven.com will take it from there.  You can add recipes to a menu with just a couple clicks of the mouse.

How does it Appear to Other Users?

See this example for how it shows up on the system.
