Tips for Getting Great Food Photos

Discuss it in our Food Photography Group!

Basics

  • In general, the best recipe photos are taken fairly close-up, are sharp and have good color balance.
  • Often, they have one or more accompanying items.
  • Try to stay away from using the flash.  It tends to flatten food and make it "colder".
  • Get at an angle, not 90 degrees.  Recipe photos taken at a straight down (i.e., flat) angle are often less attractive to the eye than those taken at an angle.
