A New Smoker

First of all, don't be disappointed if your first smoke is less than stellar. The more you use your smoker the better you will get and the better your smoker will be. All the fat drippings and smoke and spices that come along with each smoke will help season the smoker which is important in making you a backyard pro. Temperature and time are keys to master. Every piece of meat is different and timing will vary right along with that. Get a good digital probe with a wire braid cord for checking temps and start experimenting.  What have you done so far or what do you want to do?

A New Smoker

I started smoking last year. I knew nothing about it and I love it. I have two kids under five so I went with the easy way and the less time consuming option. I bought a Bradley electric smoker and it works great. Plug it in and adjust your temputure and you are set. It even has a hopper that loads wood briquettes for you. I have done a beef brisquet, pork shoulder and wings and all have turned our great.

The electris smoker has worked really well for me, I just don't 8 hours to sit and load wood chips and monitor temp all the time.

I bought a book "Willinghams BBQ" (I think) and everything I have done has turned out great. Lots of rub recipes and marinades.

Good Luck.

A New Smoker

I started out, about ten years ago with a Brinkman smoker and just loved what it could do.  After wearing that one out I purchased a Traeger and have enjoyed it for the last three years.

I agree with The Big Dog as far as "Seasoning" the smoker through use.

Don't forget the Veggies!  They come out great too.
