What is comfort food?

In America, we use the phrase "comfort food" to refer to familiar, easy-to-prepare food that often evokes memories of childhood.  Kids love comfort food because it's simple and has an uncomplicated taste.  Adults often crave comfort food for a sense of continuity and/or security.  It is usually savory and/or high in carbohydrates.

Re: What is comfort food?

My favorite comfort food is what the Pennsylvania Dutch refer to as Revel Soup, made with some kind of broth.

Re: What is comfort food?

To me comfort food is what others call soul food. I grew up eating in the southern way and that is what reminds me of childhood. PLUS i consider comfort food as foods that aren't good for you! Chocolate cake, ice cream, fried fish, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, green beans slow cooked with ham hocks and other great old time dishes like that.

i remember old times when eating certain things, like the garden dinners we ate at my grandma's. Stuff right out of her garden! Sivy beans over rice, cornbread, sliced tomatoes, sliced cukes, and sometimes fried okra

i miss childhood

What is comfort food?

Isn't it funny how you eat a particular food and it takes you right back to your childhood? I have been doing that a lot lately. The resent one is Jell-O. I remember Jell-O being served a lot in my childhood meals. And yes, a garden was a popular way of eating. Now it is grocery store, quick-fix, and preservatives. I try my best to stay away from that kind of stuff. Of course, I have to go to the grocery store, but I keep fresh in mind, no box or frozen meals.

I just stumbled upon the Big Oven Web site, and I am really liking what I see so far.

I operate a foodie blog, and this is a perfect place to show off my talent. http://www.alilcountrysugar.blogspot.com
