Why do cookies turn out different every time?

I am just a regular cook, and I am curious if anyone knows the answer to this. We bake chocolate chip cookies every week, and they turn out different very often. I never really know why they are sometimes flat and other times not. Sometimes they spread a lot, other times they are stiff. When my kids make them, sometimes they are very dark brown. I wonder if it has to do with the temperature of the butter?

Any ideas or hints? Thank you!

Why do cookies turn out different every time?

It depends what type of product you use. Maybe you sometimes change products, either the butter you had for your previous cookies were cheaper, but it was a different butter brand or even flour.

Baking powder and baking soda less or more can change the flatness.

More sugar could be the reason for more browness. It is hard to say, because I do not know the recipe of your choco chips cookies..

A Hint: Write down what type of brands name you use and maybe when you make the cookies for the next 3 weeks you will see a differences..Good Luck!
