ale or laugers

What recipe is it?  Ales tend to be more strongly flavored, and lagers more light.  If you're wanting something kind of sweet, I'd recommend either a brown ale or bock beer (Sam Smith Nut Brown Ale or Michelob Amber Bock) or a wheat or white beer (Boulevard Unflitered Wheat or Hoegaarden).  If you want a more bitter flavor from the beer, Red Stripe Jamaican Lager would be a good choice.
