Original recipe makes 60
1 tsNutmeg
1/2 cMolasses
2 Eggs; beaten
1/4 tsCloves
2 tsBaking Powder
2 1/2 cFlour
1 tsCinnamon
1/2 cButter; or shortening
1 cSugar
2 tbmilk
1 cRaisins; chopped
1/4 tsSalt

Molasses Hermits Preparation

Sift together the flour, baking powder, and spices. Cream butter or shortening and sugar, add eggs and molasses. Mix in the dry ingredients, raisins, and milk. Gather the dough together in one lump, cover with plastic wrap, and chill for 2 hours. Preheat oven to 350F. On a lightly floured board, roll out 1/2 of the dough at a time to a thin sheet and cut into desired shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheets for 10 minutes.
