I substituted bacon fat for butter. Nice flavor and texture. I doubled the sugar and will add more next time I make it, as I like a mild sweetness in my corn bread.

I fried bacon and left drippings in cast iron pan for a good coating. That's what makes this have a yummy crispy edge. I also added 1/2 cup of sweet potato pie filling to take it over the TOP!!!!!!!

Recipe was incomplete, I guessed at the butter (1/2 cup) & diced up the 2 slices of bacon, added to dry ingredients. I also added 1 cup of shredded cheese & 1 chopped jalapeno. Delicious

I had some buttermilk to use up and tried this tonight along with some red bean and rice for dinner. Worked out very well.

I've made this a couple of times and it is VERY nice and crusty. I also added old cheddar, real corn and some chipotle powder for a nice kick.

Good - but two problems. First, didn't know how much butter was required. Second, didn't know what to do with the bacon. Outcome good, though.
