Old-Fashioned Lemonade
Old-Fashioned Lemonade Preparation
This tangy lemonade made with a basic syrup, can be prepared beforehand. Wash lemons. Roll lemons on a flat surface to soften. Remove outer rinds (yellow part) with a vegetable peeler; cut into strips. Set lemons aside. Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil over moderate heat to dissolve sugar. Add lemon strips. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, covered, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat; take out rind. Cool syrup. Squeeze lemons; strain juice. Add to syrup; mix well. Refrigerate, covered, until ready to use. To serve, combine syrup with 3 quarts cold water. Mix well. Pour over ice cubes in tall glasses. Garnish with lemon slices.
