Ground turkey provides a lean alternative to ground beef in this chili recipe. Here's a very good, simple turkey chili. It's quite versatile; it can be spiced up further with cayenne pepper and/or jalapenos.
"My wife has surgery so I wound up having to cook for the family. I downloaded this app then came across this dish. My first time making Chili and it turned out great. Great recipe "season to taste". Next tie I might slightly season the meat before cooking it."- bwarren1

Saute onion and garlic; add turkey and brown. Drain fat.
Add tomatoes and everything except for beans.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 2 hours, adding water if needed. After 1 1/2 hours, add the beans. (Do not add them too early, or they will be mushy.)
Serve with a dollup of sour cream and sharp cheddar cheese
Very good, very versatile ground-turkey-based chili recipe that can be increased or decreased in spiciness per personal taste. Don~quote~quotet skip the sharp cheddar cheese!

hunnibun 2 months agoi only put in a third of the chilli powder suggested as i was making this for a 5 year old and a 17 month old. it was still too spicy even for me so after pouring large amounts of yogurt and cream to cool it down, it was still too spicy for the kids and too creamy for me. not for my family and thats a shame as it smelt lovely.
susanrtanis 7 months agogreat flavor. left out the cayenne pepper. serving to kids who don't like spice.

gingerspice62 10 months agoI would rate this recipe with 5 stars. It was an excellent recipe. I usually try new recipes when we have company and of course I served this to friends and they, too, said it was very, very tasty. The wife of our friends wanted the recipe and I happily gave it to her. Some things I did to the recipe was:doubled it (noticed when I went back into website, I could change it to however many serving I wanted), sauteed the onion and garlic (used 4 times garlic) and then removed from pan, cooked each package of ground turkey separately, added one 8 oz. can of tomato sauce in the last hour of cooking because I wanted more tomato flavor, plus added about 2 tablespoons more cornmeal to thicken it a bit more. After cooking the turkey, I put everything into my large crock pot and finished cooking it. I added the kidney beans about one hour before serving. I cooked on high for 2 hours and low for another hour. I will make it again and share it with my family. I should probably add that I rarely make a recipe exactly as posted, it's just a cook's, or my thing! I have a habit of adding or deleting things to the recipe, customizing it to my taste. I do believe that if I had followed the recipe exactly as posted that I would still rate it as a five star recipe! Because I found the recipe on BigOven, I will add it to my Favorites.

greagan01 11 month agoEasy and flavorful. Added a can of Rotel to the original mix and 1/4 cup red cooking wine during the simmer, plus some red pepper flakes near the end.
devitadyer 1 year agoI tried this recipe but changed a few things. It turned out well but I used pinto beans instead of kidney beans. I did not use cumin because I didn't have still did fine. I love season so I must say I used a lot of seasonings to get the taste I wanted.
stevemur 1 year agoBrnandin, I think you misinterpreted 'tsp' to mean 'tablespoon' and not 'teaspoon'. 'tsp' is short for 'teaspoon' but to clarify for others, I'm updating the recipe. Thanks!

stevemur 2 years agoEasy comfort food. You can make this as spicy as you'd like with extra jalapenos, cayenne pepper, etc.
catheas 2 years agoGreat chili! I used a combo of Rotel & tomato sauce instead of chopped tomatoes. I will definitely make this again!
kfblake 2 years agoMy new go to turkey chili recipe. Used Hunts tomato sauce instead of canned tomatoes to make it thick and delish!
