1.Combine and beat together egg, sugar, milk, salt, desired spices, and vanilla.
2. Heat a lightly buttered griddle or skillet over medium-high.
3. Dunk each slice of bread in egg mixture, soaking both sides.
4. Place in skillet or griddle and cook on both sides until golden.
Serve hot with:
Pure Maple Syrup
or Powdered Sugar
or Favorite Jam

LavenderWand 6 months agoThis is my favorite french toast recipe ....minus nutmeg with a little extra brown sugar. Made both regular-sliced white bread and raisin bread. Enjoyed by everyone.

raa29671 11 month agoBrown sugar and nutmeg are subtle but nice additions to a classic french toast recipe. Top with a small amount of powdered sugar.
chef_shinobi 1 year agoYum!!! We use this one every Sunday. No nutmeg needed. Brown sugar all the way. Sea salt. Lactose free milk seems to work best. Vanilla bean makes it.

jlmoon 1 year agoI made this for my three sons and we went through 2 loaves of bread. I used cinnamon raisin bread and it was excellent.
