Simple Pizza Sauce

Recipes »  Marinades and Sauces  »  Sauce

A simple pizza sauce that is based off a sauce I originally learned in high school and have tweaked over the years until I thought it was just about perfect.

"I normally use spaghetti sauce for pizza because "pizza" labeled sauce is so expensive. Now I have a much better sauce to use. As a matter of fact, I had sauce left over, added a 28 oz. can of chopped tomatoes, hamburger, pineapple juice, another table spoon of Italian seasoning and BAM, spaghetti sauce. Very good, thank you!" - Rjgroves

Servings
Original recipe makes 2 Servings
1 can (12 oz)Tomato paste
1 can (16 oz)Tomato sauce
2 tablespoonItalian Seasoning
1 smallOnion; diced
2 clovesGarlic; minced
1 tablespoonSugar
1 pinchSalt; to taste
2 tablespoonOlive oil

Simple Pizza Sauce Preparation

Over medium heat, saute onion in olive oil until light brown. Stir in remaining ingredients and bring to boil. Lower heat and simmer until desired thickness.

Notes

Only simmer the sauce as long as it takes to get the desired thickness. If the sauce gets too thick, you may add a little water to thin it out again, but you don't want to over do it, because too thin of a sauce won't hold to the dough well and the flavors will get watered down. Good luck!

I think it's great, but I may be a little biased... lol I did a few updates to the notes and description and such. Didn't change the recipe any though. I haven't found anything that really improves on it. Hope y'all continue to enjoy the sauce and thank you for all the comments.

This is such a great recipe. So, so easy to make and the taste is perfect. I've been looking for a good pizza sauce recipe for years and I've finally found it. It does make quite a bit so I freeze it in one pizza sized servings in baby food jars and just thaw out a jar when I need it.

Nice, easy recipe for great, thick tomato sauce. Make a lot, keep it in the fridge, Friday pizza night was never easier of more delicious.

This sauce has more flavor then the other sauce recipe I had been using. We all thought the homemade pizza had more flavor then any store bought. The prep for this sauce was very quick, I let it simmer for a good hour. I will be using this recipe for future pizza nights. Thanks.

WOW!! 2 whole garlic cloves for such a small amount! Sounds great! ... it's the way I used to cook things. Unfortunately I ended up with Acid Reflux. I couldn't handle it
