Salsa Sloppy Joes

Recipes »  Main Dish  »  Burgers

A healthy version of sloppy joes that is so easy to make. For a large gathering you can make in a crock pot.

"I love that this was super quick and easy, and I didn't have to dirty a ton of dishes to make it. Based on the other reviews, I did improvise a little: I seasoned the turkey with salt, pepper and worcestershire sauce while browning. I also used 3/4 cup salsa and 2 tbsp. brown sugar, and also mixed in a generous sprinkling of cumin while simmering. It came out great! Thanks for sharing this recipe, will definitely use it again!" - Sadielain

Honestly I still prefer sloppy joes with beef, not feeling the turkey

Overall good recipe. Agree with the comments it's a little bland for those of us who like it spicy. We added a little cayenne and black pepper, which made it tasty!

My husband said they were way better than manwich sloppy joes. Thanks for the recipe!

I made this recipe and then tasted it, not bad but not awesome. Somewhat bland. I usually buy manwich bold which gives a tangier flavor to sloppy joes. I also noticed this recipe did not have any spices. I added a little more mustard, a little more brown sugar, a little bit of Worcestershire, season salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a little can of tomato paste ( to get a tangier flavor) with a little water to dilute the paste. After the additions it was at least 4.5 stars if not more.

It needed more salsa and some jalapeƱo chopped up to make it to our liking.

My boyfriend was skeptical about this recipe. He hates spicy. It wasn't spicy at all, just flavorful. Turns out he likes it better than manwich. And so do I. I also used ground beef without the oil instead of turkey.
