Beef Stroganoff

Recipes »  Main Dish  »  Main Dish - Other

This is the best Beef Stroganoff we have ever had. Everyone that has it at my house asks for the recipe.

"It was really easy to make and it had my family salivating in the kitchen for 30 minutes before it was done. I didn't even have to call them to dinner, they were already there. The only thing I did different was add a package of dry onion soup mix (because I didn't have the onion soup), used hamburger instead, used 16 oz of sour cream instead of cream cheese (because I didn't have that either), and fried up fresh mushrooms in garlic salt and olive oil to add to the mix. Thanks for a great recipe! Next time I will make it with all the original ingredients :)" - jet2jet

This was easy to make, and my family enjoyed it. I couldn't find cream of onion soup, so I substituted French Onion (Campbell's) soup instead, and it worked out well.

I love this recipe. I was really new to trying anything other than meat, potatoes & veggies so i liked that this was easy and delish. This recipe allowed me to get creative. I'm Italian and love a ton of flavor so I made a few adjustments. I use London broil cut into bite size pieces (sirloin works too but I found LB is a lot more tender). I use 1 can of cream of mushroom & for the other, I've used cream of onion, French onion or golden mushroom. Either one works well. I also add 1 envelope of Lipton dry onion soup mix. For seasoning, I use the following (all are 'to taste' so there aren't any measurements): garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, seasoned salt, pepper, and for a little extra kick, I add some crushed red pepper. I also add 2 tbsp of Worcestershire. The last of my modifications is the key to amazing flavor. I actually did it not knowing what to expect but won't make my stroganoff without it now. Instead of regular cream cheese, I add 1/2 a carton (approx 5 oz) of Philadelphia Cooking Cream-Savory Garlic. I put it in the crockpot with 6-8 oz of sour cream during the last hour of cooking. YUMMY!!! Try it & let me know what you think.

It's the only beef stroganoff I've made/had. But it was good, I'll be making it again. (It is good on brown rice as well)

I used venison instead of beef. It was good and it made a LOT of food. The kids didn't like it as much as I hoped, but that's fairly common place around here. :-)

I have made this recipe a few times now- my family (all grown) loves it!!! I also had trouble finding cream of onion soup here in Ca, so used french onion soup, I always replace cream of mushroom soup called for in a recipe with cream of chicken as it has more flavor & replaced stew beef with top sirloin steak, sliced thin while frozen, then simmered for a half hour in the french onion soup mixture before adding other ingredients & the meat was very tender. Simmering the meat in the onion soup also reduces the soup & the stroganoff consistency is perfect!! I use rice, due to the limitations of one of my family members.

I used ground beef instead of stew meat and cooked it on the stove top instead of in a crock pot. It was a little thick so next time I will add a little milk. Turned out very good!

Made this dish and served over brown rice since I didn't have the noodles. Absolutely delicious and easy. Will try with noodles the next time. Served with Garden pea salad and sliced cucumbers from our garden. Some fresh ripe tomatoes would also be nice. Thanks for sharing, Kowgirl777.

This was a great way to cook stroganoff - in the slow cooker! The sauce was too rich for me and my husband. We plan to try this again experimenting with a reduced amount of cream cheese - probably half the amount called for. There was an abundance of sauce so leaving out some of the cream cheese probably won't be a problem Liked it over extra wide egg noodles. It will take a little experimenting to get to our liking but a great start!

Good with left over roast and gravy - use gravy for soup and add some flour to thicken.

Loved it very much. I think served with noodles is the best way to eat it. I didn't like the time I spent untill it was ready to eat but, it was well worth the wait to me.

Very easy and very tasty. I did not use the Cream of Onion soup. I replaced that with a second can of Cream of Mushroom. I also added 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce. I might add one more the next time I make. But, this is easy and really good. I served this on top of whole wheat pasta.

I won't make this dish again.
I didn't like it very much, and thought it was to bland for my taste.

Excellent dish. I could not find cream of onion soup, so used 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup. I added 2 teaspoons of worchestershire sauce. I garnished each serving with freshly ground pepper.
