An old family favorite apple pie with a crumb topping.

"I made 2 and they were slamming/delicious i added caramel sundae topping before putting in the oven and i didn't have any more nutmeg so i used a little pumpkin pie spice and i had a bunch of leftover apples taken up space in my refrigerator and it was well worth it and i had leftover pie crust in the frig already in the shell so everything worked out perfect and i don't eat apple pie but i do now Thanks" - bigmona311

Original recipe makes 6
1 9-inchPie Crust; Unbaked, deep
4 largeApples; peeled and sliced
1/2 cupSugar
2 tablespoonFlour
1/2 teaspoonCinnamon
2 tablespoonsLemon Juice; omit for green apples
1/2 cupSugar
1/2 cupFlour
1/2 cupButter

Brown Bag Apple Pie Preparation

Mix 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons lemon juice in a large bowl. (Omit lemon juice if using green apples. They are tart enough already.) Add apple slices and toss until coated. Place in pie shell. For topping cut 1/2 sup sugar and 1/2 cup flour into 1/2 butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over apples. Place pie in large brown paper bag. Fold ends over twice and fasten. (I use staples or paper clips.) Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for one hour.

Love! My mom loved it so much and that's saying a lot! This recipe made 2 pies for me...Not that anyone's complaining!

Followed directions to the tee but seemed way too buttery for my taste. I think I'll stick with a lattice pie crust top from now on. The filling also seemed to be missing something, a little on the bland side.

I have made this 3 times for holiday gatherings and was devoured! Everyone said it was the best apple pie they ever had. I used Braeburn apples and followed recipe and bake time exactly. Thanks for a great recipe!

My oven is a little out of calibration but even so this not nearly enough cooking time. I was a skeptic of the brown bag method but it worked fine. Not sure why I used it and wonder if it was the sack that prevented browning to occur. Great flavor!

Really yummyfull!!!!!! I was scared that my oven would catch fire with the brown bag in it but I put it on a cookie sheet and all was well!! Really liked how the bag helped the pie retain moisture!! Great recipe

Wasn't sure about the paper bag in the oven but it worked great. Easiest apple pie recipe and came out great. I had a bunch of granny smith apples so I made two for Thanksgiving. I made one by the recipe and one with brandy. Both were great. Be sure to spoon the apples into the pie crust or it could end up soggy in the bottom.

Great, easy recipe. We call this the 'Apple Crisp' pie, because it tastes just like old fashioned apple crisp. We plan to make again for Thanksgiving.
