Hubby knows it as American chop suey, but no matter the name you use, goulash is a favorite comfort food for all. Different every time I make it based on what fresh veggies I have on hand, the onion, ground meat, noodles and tomato sauce are the base staples that make this dish what it is. Love it!!
I've been making goulash as far back as I can remember, as a young girl with my mom! I continue making it for my family quite a bit during the autumn and cold winter months in michigan! I use petite tomatoes, minced garlic, oregano, canned mushrooms (drained), and tomato paste. Sometimes I will also use inexpensive off-brand spaghetti sauce if I feel like being lazy. Either way, a good recipe, it's quick, and easy! And the family always enjoys it!
I made this today, for the 2nd time. (Last time was 7 months ago.) It turned out MUCH tastier because I changed several ingredients. I'm sharing my revised recipe here on BigOven (search for Ida's Depression Goulash).
