| 1 teaspoonDehydrated garlic flakes |
| 1 sliceWhite bread; thick, crusts removed |
| 1/2 cupmilk |
| 1 3/4 poundGround beef |
| 2 tablespoonCurry powder |
| 2 tablespoonVinegar |
| 2 tablespoonFlaked almonds |
| 2 tablespoonFruit chutney |
| 1 teaspoonTumeric |
| 1/2 teaspoonBlack pepper |
| 1 pinchSalt; to taste |
| 2 tablespoonVegetable oil |
| 3 eachBay leaf |
| 3 largeEgg |
| 3/4 cupmilk |
Bobotie Preparation
1. Soak the onion and garlic flakes in a little warm water for 20 minutes and drain.
2. Soak the bread in milk and squeeze dry, reserving milk. Combine bread with beef, onion and garlic flakes, curry powder, vinegar, almonds, chutney, tumeric, salt & pepper & mix well.
3. Heat oil in pan and brown the meat mixture, stirring constantly. Transfer to a casserole dish and press bay leaves into mixture.
4. Beat eggs and milk remaining from soaking bread, plus 3/4 cup milk together and pour over meat mixture. Bake at 180C for 40 to 50 minutes until topping is nicely browned.
