CB's Beef Stew and Dumplings
Recipes » Soups, Stews and Chili » Stews
A hearty meat and potatoes stew, passed down from generation to generation of Mother's, in my family. All spices, and ingredients are subject to amounts desired, as we don't usualy use measure spoons, but our hands to measure, and mouths to taste. You can make it for the picky kids, who don't like onions, or the picky kids who don't like garlic.

1. Brown meat, with garlic OR chopped onion, and celery in a large stock pot. Add broth, water to cover meat, and all seasoning, bringing to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for aprox 2 hours.
2. Add carrots, potatoes, and water to cover potatoes, leaving at least 3" room in the pot for making dumplings later. Simmer for aprox 1 hour.
3. Remove bay leaf. Prepare dumplings according to Bisquick package directions.
4. Remove dumplings from pot, to a large bowl. Place flour, 2 tablespoons at a time, in a large glass, mix with cold water to form a smooth liquid. Add to pot, stirring, to thicken the stew, repeat flour mixture for desired thickness. Add stew and dumplings to plates, or bowls to serve.
