Dutch Sugar Cookies - roll out

Recipes »  Desserts  »  Cookies and Bars

These are the smoothest, most delicious cookies. And, they're easy to roll and cut, as they don't stick like many others. The difference is that they're made with powdered sugar rather than granulated sugar. Perfect for Christmas, kid's birthday parties, etc.

"It seems like most of my memories from being a little girl are centered around the kitchen table during holidays: I remember colouring Easter eggs, I remember carving pumpkins, and I remember my mom bringing out the cookie cutters and decorating bits and bobs. (Which doesn't explain why Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday, but...). So I've made this recipe up twice, let the little ones help me out and we are all impressed! It is going on my Christmas cookie staple list! Thanks for posting it!" - cleverkt

Original recipe makes 4
1.5 cupsPowdered sugar
1 cupUnsalted butter; room temperature
1 largeEgg
2 teaspoonsVanilla extract
2.5 cupsFlour
1 teaspoonBaking Powder
0.5 teaspoonSalt

Dutch Sugar Cookies - roll out Preparation

Using electric mixer, beat sugar and butter in large bowl until light.

Beat in egg and vanilla.

Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix to combine.

Divide dough in half. Gather each piece into ball and flatten into disks. Wrap in plastic and chill 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 325.

Roll out 1 dough disk on floured work surface to 1/8 in. thickness. Using assorted cookie cutters, cut out cookies.

Transfer cookies to ungreased baking sheets, spacing 1 in. apart.

Bake cookies until pale golden, about 13 minutes.

Transfer cookies to rack; cool.

Repeat with remaining dough disk.

Ice and decorate to your taste.

Note: I like a very simple icing made of water, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and food coloring. Just mix to the right consistency and taste.

Well, the dough was tasty, lol!! Just waiting for the chill time to be done... Not so much a fan of chill time, BUT, if these cookies are half as good as the dough tasted, they will be worth the hour break before cookie cutter fun!! I'll keep you posted!!

Yummy even without icing on. Just gave my boyfriend some to try and he loved them. He's not usually a fan of cakes and biscuits so they must be good!

This is great and easy. It is so fluffy and light, like biting into a cloud. I added chocolate chips to half the batch. They turned out yummy!

Soooo yummy couldn't stop eating them! I made them for my daughter's class. We cut them out with a Michigan shaped cutter, they rolled out & cut beautifully. Used the frostin recipe too. Easy and tasty!! A winner in my book.
