Penne Pasta with Lemon Sauce

I had a similar dish recently at a German restaurant in Dresden. This is my version of that dish. It's creamy with a great light lemon flavor and is excellent topped with grilled salmon.

"we added diced sauteed chicken breast and mushrooms, and left out the zest. It wasn't very lemony due to the zest not being added, but it was still absolutely delicious and we'd make it the same way again next time. a simple creamy penne dish that tasted great.
I advise you eat as much as you can the first night though it doesn't make good left overs, the sauce turns into an oil when you heat it up again and loses it's cream."

Ingredients

4 tblspoons Butter
1 cup Heavy whipping cream
2 tblspoons Lemon juice; fresh
1 teaspoon Lemon zest
1 teaspoon Lime zest
1 cup Beef broth
10 ounces Penne pasta

Original recipe makes 6

Servings  

Preparation

In an extra large skillet, combine the butter, cream and broth. Simmer over medium heat until reduced by about half. Add the lemon juice, lemon and lime zest and set aside.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente; drain.

Toss pasta with sauce and serve. Top with large chunks of grilled salmon or chicken.

Perfect for a quick week night dinner. I add lots of mushrooms and onions then add the cream and broth and the lemon zest only. I finish it with fresh rocket ontop. It's my new fav!!!!!!!!!!

Turned out a bit oily to my taste. Will leave out the butter next time, Maybe replace with EVOO

My family loved it and they usually don't like new things. I used half and half and worked okay. It was hard to tell if I had reduced it enough. We thought it was even better the next day. Had more of the lemony taste.

We enjoyed it. Ibadded more lemon juice like someone suggested, I felt it was too much. Will try unaltered version next time.

Very easy to make, although I really wasn't sure when the sauce had reduced enough. My family members loved it. I added cooked chicken breast cut into small pieces. This would be fantastic with some fresh vegetables, like artichokes or mushrooms, added in.

I like lemon, this was not very lemony, more like a butter sauce. Might be better on spaetzle.
