Memere's Mashed Potatoes

Recipes »  Side Dish  »  Potatoes

Memere makes the best mashed potatoes. These are them.

"When I started cooking many years ago, I ruined some mashed potatoes by trying to make them in a stand mixer- the result was gluey and gross. I guess a hand mixer is the way to go, because I've made these twice and they're fluffy and delicious. The last time, I used 3 large russet potatoes, 2 tbs butter, and 3/4 cup of milk- perfect for a quick weeknight side dish. When I made them for the holidays I used a lot more butter." - FuzzySapiens

This has always been the recipe used in our house. You don't need measurements for every recipe. How ever many potatoes you use, then the rest of ingredients are to taste. Add a little & taste until you get what you want.

I just finished making these for Thanksgiving tomorrow, and I think I'm going to need to make another batch. These mashed potatoes are AMAZING!!!! I made 5 lbs of potatoes and used 2 sticks of butter. I also used gourmet sea salt instead of regular salt. Yuuuummmmyyyy!!!

Very basic recipe that teaches one how to cook by taste since there are no measurements. Cooking like this helps to cook without having to look up recipes each time we turn on the stove.

I have used this recipe for years exccept I use margarine and a potato masher, with no salt in the water. I also cut down the cooking time by cutting the potatoes in half or even quarters if in a hurry. I also mash them on the hot element. This is truly an easy yet great recipe.
