5 slicesbacon
1/2 mediumonion; chopped
2/3 cupBrown Sugar; firmly packed
3/4 cupbarbecue sauce
1 15-oz cankidney beans; rinsed and drained
1 15-oz canbutter beans; rinsed and drained
1 15-oz canpork and beans; undrained
2 tablespoonsMolasses
2 teaspoonsDijon mustard
1/2 teaspoonSalt
1/2 teaspoonPepper
1/2 teaspoonChili powder

Barbecue Beans Preparation

Cook bacon in a Dutch oven until crisp; drain and crumble.

Cook onion in bacon drippings to soften. Stir in bacon and all remaining ingredients. Spoon into a 2 -quart baking dish. Chill for 8 hours or overnight, if desired.

Bake bean mixture at 350 degrees for 1 hour, stirring once.

Notes

I like to spice this up with some cayenne pepper and/or hot sauce. You can also cut back the amount of sugar and add a bit of root beer, which really accentuates the flavors. During baking, a couple of partially cooked bacon slices may be laid across the top of the beans for added flavor.
