Spaghetti Sauce

Recipes »  Marinades and Sauces  »  Sauce

This sauce came from a good friend's Italian Mother-in-law. It is easy, and by far the best homemade sauce I know of. Great for both Spaghetti and Lasagna. Pssst...the secret is the sugar!

"This is really a PHENOMINAL spaghetti sauce recipe! It tastes TRULY authentic! To give the sauce a VERY DELICIOUS zip I added between 1/4 and 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red peppers before cooking the sauce. As far as the sugar goes, I put in a full 2 tablespoons and it seems to be PERFECT! I agree that it's the sugar that really makes this sauce great! I also agree that I will never buy already made spaghetti sauce again! This recipe has spoiled my family and has brought our spaghetti dinners to a whole new level!" - billatkublakhan

Notes

I found this recipe on the internet a long time ago, but the originator of the recipe is unknown. It is presented here with his own comments. This is better than any spaghetti sauce I have EVER tried!

Needs a bit more flavor for my liking but not bad though overall.

Will try substituting some wine for the sugar next time but great taste overall.

Nice tasting sauce. Use some Italian sausage and chuck in some wine (reducing the sugar) and take it up a level.

This sauce was pretty tasty. I had to add more salt, pepper and garlic because it was a little bland. It was also a little too sweet; next time I will use less sugar.

This was easy and really good. I used Italian sausage instead since I had meatballs and it was still killer!

Never add meat to your sauce. Meat should be separate with a little sauce. Adding meat completely changes the flavor.

Very happy with results. A must to try and plenty of options to modify If desired as others mentioned. Thank you.

Really good. I modified it a bit and used Italian sausage, skipped the bell peppers and used crushed whole tomatoes only.

I usually don't change recipes until after I try it the first time to the letter. This one I just adjusted a few things, I used Italian sausage instead of ground beef, added a can of tomato paste and omitted the parsley (it wasn't in the directions anyhow). To the person who thinks 5 cloves of garlic is too much; it's cloves of garlic, not entire heads of garlic. THIS IS AN AWESOME RECIPE! Thank you so very much!

Sauce is better than anything out of a jar. Enjoyed not only preparing, but eating this delicious recipe. I would however thicken it up a bit (paste), spice it up and add mushrooms. Still a great dish and reccomend

Did my usual liberal addition of garlic and pepper to taste with a little sea salt. Turned out great. I'm going to trash my old personal recipe for this one.
