Grandma Jean's recipe. Both Mom and Grandma made these for Christmas.
"MsB205, I haven't tried substituting butter for Crisco, but I've read that you can do this. I imagine it won't make the cookie as high and light as when using Crisco. If you don't mind a flatter, thinner cookie give it a try! Let us know how it turns out."- silentmeow

MsB205 2 months agoI was inquiring whether you can use butter instead of Crisco? I usually do not have shortening in my pantry. I plan on making these during the holidays. THANK YOU BETTY

Sweetpea7073 2 years agoThese were wonderful. They were quite easy to prepare and tasted fantastic. I added some grated crystallized ginger and cinnamon to the sugar that I rolled them in.
jmschaub 2 years agoExcellent cookies. It almost tastes like gingerbread, but I guess that would depend on what type of molasses you use.
adw899 3 years agoNice cookies and I really like the molasses taste for a cookie. For the other post, The cookies are rolled in sugar before baking. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I will make them again in the future.
steveschmidtbig 5 years agoPhoto submitted by Kimography doesn't seem to match the recipe. The cookies in the photo are coated with coarse granulated sugar. The only sugar mentioned in the recipe is brown sugar.
