Recipes »  Main Dish  »  Casseroles

An old favorite that everyone enjoys. Bake this camping favorite in the oven or on the grill. Set up the TV trays and your ready for Monday night football! Pass the ketchup please!

"I've made this recipe for Hobos twice now and will make it again. This last time I went easy on the pepper as my wife said it was a bit spicy the first time. I also added fresh chopped parsley and thinly sliced garlic to the foil pouch, came out great. Lots of variations possible here, but good as is with no changes, too."

Original recipe makes 4
1 1/2 poundsGround beef
1 envelopeDry onion soup mix
2 mediumPotaoes; peeled, diced
1 canCorn; drained
1 canPeas; drained
2 mediumCarrots; peeled, sliced
Worcestershire; sauce
Salt
Pepper

Hobo's Preparation

Mix dry onion soup into the ground beef. Form the beef into four hamburger patties and season each with salt and pepper to taste.

Lay each patty on a long piece of aluminum foil. Evenly distribute the potatoes, corn, carrots and peas over the top of each patty. Just heap it on there! Sprinkle each with worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.

Fold the sides of the foil so that they over lap. Bring the long ends of the foil together and fold. The foil should create a pouch for each patty to cook in.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour; until potatoes are fork tender and the meat is cooked as desired. Remove from oven. Open each foil pouch (watch the steam) and drain off excess liquid. Roll the edges of the foil under on all sides. Place foil pouches directly onto a dinner plate.

Success!! Great simple recipe to please family members of all ages (from the hubby down to the toddler!). I changed nothing and added nothing, which is not normal for me!

Everyone loved this and cleanup was super easy. I added onion, egg and bread crumbs to hamburger and used white wine in the foil

This is also good with boneless skinless chicken breast seasoned to your liking in place of the ground beef.

The recipe is super easy and quick to put together and good for what it is; however, I think I would prefer to just make cheeseburgers.

Love this recipe! Tweaked it by putting a bunch of small meatballs in the bottom of a Dutch oven then covering it in the veggies and worshestirshire and cooking it covered in the oven..a bit hit!

Very good as is, but the meat can get a little dry. Make sure you fold up your packets correctly!

This is a winner!!! The only changes I made were ground turkey instead of beef, and sweet potatoes in place of white. My picky eater 13yr old was begging for seconds.

I love Hobo's! We sprinkle Montreal Steak seasoning on the meat, top with potatoes, sliced onion, season with salt and pepper on top of the onion, and add a few tablespoons of frozen whole kernel corn to each one. YUMMY!!!
