This was one of the easier French onion soup recipes I’ve made but it sacrificed some depth of flavor compared to ones that use red wine as well as beef broth. I did love the tip on toasting the bread before putting on the soup!
Heaven! Oniony, rich, amazing depth of flavour!
I dropped a star because it was missing an acidic bite to balance the sweetness, so I reduced the broth down by a cup, and added a cup of red wine. Otherwise, no changes needed!
Awesome recipe ! Easy to follow. Good soup. I didn't add the bread because of the mush factor. I ended up using Sargentos 6 cheese Italian blend. Next time I will make sure I add the bay leaf ! I missed that in ingredient list, but I feel like it would've helped to add to the depth of flavor.
Super delicious. Super filling. Simple to make. I made it for my friends and they loved it. Served it with pears on the side and the rest of the baguette. Recommended! *(I also used vegetable broth, a dash of rosemary and thyme, I used gruyere cheese, I used more than two cups, also used more bay leaves)
Tip for shorten prep time: I fry the onion rings in olive oil and when it's getting transparent, I add a spoon of suggar to help caramelization. Let it reduce for about 15 min. Im not sure if it taste the same because I've never had the patince to wait. Love love love it!
