Elvis Fried Tofu

Elvis Fried Tofu

Ready in 20 minutes

Wow! This might be my new favorite fast food - it's really easy and quick to make, and incredibly tasty too! I found this recipe on the blog "What the Hell Does a Vegan Eat Anyway" (http://veganmenu.blogspot.com/).

"My wife and I enjoyed this. I didn't have soy sauce so I made my own marinade with balsamic, molasses, and liquid smoke. I would also argue that they are best left to sit and dry for 15min on paper towels before serving. They won't be hot, but they will have a nice crisp. I finished it off by sprinkling paprika on the top just before serving."

Ingredients

Are you making this?
1 pound Firm tofu
1/4 cup Tamari soy sauce
3/4 cup All purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons Smoked paprika; (if you have it; if not, regular will do)
1 1/2 teaspoons Salt
1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
1/4 cup Oil; (for frying)

Original recipe makes 4

Servings

Preparation

Cut the tofu into 8 rectangular cutlets, and then cut diagonally into long triangles. Marinate the tofu in the tamari for 5 minutes.

Combine the flour, paprika, salt, and pepper, and mix well.

Coat the tofu cutlets in the flour mixture.

In a cast-iron skillet (or other heavy-bottomed skillet) heat the oil over high heat. Add the coated tofu pieces gently into the oil and fry until well-browned on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side). Drain, and serve immediately.

This recipe is a good way to throw in some protein with a veggie dish. Tasty, easy and versatile.

Very easy and tasty! I've never cooked tofu before, and only eaten it about three times, and this was far and away the best I've had yet. I added a little cayanne pepper and used non-smoked paprika, and it came out tasting a lot like a spicy French fry, really

Bleh... What is that picture is supposed to be about? It sure doesn't look like tofu cutlets...

It was good. A little bland for my tastes, so I added chili powder and used chipotle tabasco sauce to added the smokey flavor since I didn't have smoked paprika. It was pretty good, but still needed more for me.
