The perfect mac-n-cheese for people who hate cheese sauce (like me!)
Cook macaroni per package directions; drain thoroughly.
Grease a 1 1/2- to 2-quart casserole dish; set aside. Preheat oven to 350F.
Stir butter and egg into cooked macaroni.
Mix mustard and salt with hot water and add to milk; set aside.
Stir 2 1/2 cups cheese into macaroni. (Save remainder to sprinkle on top.)
Pour macaroni into buttered casserole; add milk, sprinkle with reserved cheese.
Bake for 45 minutes or until custard is set and top is crusty.
