"I'm not a huge fan of roast. It seems the meat just never has any flavor, despite having seasoned it. But my dad bought us this 7 pound roast and I needed a recipe to cook it up, and I found this one. I cut the roast in half so as to adhere to the recipe, but also so it would fit in my crock pot. I seasoned the meat with pepper, garlic and onion and browned in oil with garlic. The end result was really good. Still not a fan of such a bland meat, but the gravy it made was spectacular! (Please note in a SLOW COOKER you CAN cut in half the dry ingredients if you find it overpowering.)
In the pressure cooker use the whole envelopes. I prefer the whole envelopes in either method of cooking.
Put the water in a measuring cup that is larger then the amount of water you are using. Now add and mix all three envelopes of dry salad dressings to the water. Mix until blended completely.
Brown the roast (if desired) I love mine browned in the CE 8 qt PC)
Add the meat to your cooker
Pour the water, salad dressing mixture over the roast
Now cook as usual. In the CE Pressure Cooker, I cooked it for 70 minutes and used quick release method can and probably should use natural but I am always in a hurry when making this as it smells so good! In the slow cooker cook it on high for about 4 hours on low about 8 hours.
You can use the liquid for gravy or broth!
This roast was great! My family loved it and it pulled apart with a fork.

chadbro828 2 months ago**Special consideration! This recipe is decent. However, most ranch mixes contain (a ton of) MSG. Which I didn't realize until we were all quite miserable (thank you gas pills!). So you may want to halve the amount or find another seasoning to use..

Lynn1775 2 months agoMade '2 envelope roast' with whole packets brown gravy and ranch mix, 1 cup water in crock pot. Dredged and browned meat first as suggested below. Totally delicious! Lots of au-jus style gravy.

Dshadow 4 months agoBrowned roast using an electric pressure cooker along with onion, carrots and fresh Bella mushrooms. I used the entire envelope of seasonings. A very easy and delicious meal.

Porpo83 4 months agoFabulous and easy. Browned with Flour and pepper in olive oil. Cooked on high 4-5 hours in crock pot with entire envelopes of seasonings over a chuck roast.
jrflyers 4 months agoJust purchased instant pot pressure cooker and wanted to test it out. I used the sauté function browned the chuck roast in some olive oil. Added a large sweet onion. Then followed recipe. Roast was great almost fall apart tender. This is a keeper.

vbancod 9 months agoDelicious! I added a can of beef broth and medium onion to the mix and then 30 min before serving thickened the gravy by adding 5 tsp of cornstarch slurry to the crockpot. Even my very picky toddler who rarely eats beef devoured it...and he asked to eat the leftovers the following day for lunch. I will definitely be making this again.
