Very tasty, tender chicken, and easy to make.

"I used boneless breast cut up in nugget chunks, added 2 Tbs Johnnys seasoning and 2 Tbs Cayenne Pepper to the flour, chicken broth instead of water, and spicy BBQ sauce, came out perfectly spicy for our family, my 6 year old twin boys love it and asked for extra sauce on their plate, thanks for posting" - singleDADDYof3

Original recipe makes 6
1/2 cupFlour
2 poundsBoneless, skinless chicken breasts; or thighs
1/2 cupButter; one stick
16 ouncesKraft Thick and Spicy Barbecue sauce; Brown sugar flavored is our favorite
1 cupWater

Stove Top Barbecue Chicken Preparation

Heat the butter in a large sauce pan on medium high heat and coat the chicken with flour. Brown the chicken quickly on both sides in the butter until just golden brown. While the chicken is browning, mix and heat the barbecue sauce and water in a smaller saucepan. When the sauce is warm and the chicken is browned, add the sauce to the chicken, stirring gently to coat the chicken in the sauce. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about an hour or until the chicken is tender.

Very Good! I used bone-in chicken though, and still didn't have to cook it an hour. Probably that long a cook time for boneless chicken is a bit much. Next time I'm going to make this in the morning and reheat for supper as, with so many dishes, its flavor improves as it sits a while.

This was really good! I did what some others did&cut the boneless chicken breasts into nuggets. Only thing I have a problem with is my breading became soggy&I'm not sure how to fix that?. Other than that it was overall delicious!!!

I made this the other night for my brother and I and it was really good. My brother, who is a VERY picky eater and VERY honest with culinary critiquing, loved it and said that I need to make it again.
So i guess if he says its good, it has to be haha.

I've made this four or five times ~ always with ONLY real butter, no oil ~ never had any problem with the butter burning. Delicious every time.

Wow, this was great, I knew it would be. Very tender and yummy, I think the better quality the BBQ sauce is, the better tasting it will be.

I can't wait to try this, it looks simple but tasty and you can make it an elegant meal by adding some awesome sides.

Just a side note. I cooked only 2 chicken breast so there was lots of sauce left. I am freezing it and next time I make Stove Top BBQ Chicken I will reuse the sauce by adding another cup of chicken stock or more if it needs it. Hats off from one Texas girl to another.

What a great recipe!! I tweaked it just a bit. I used bone-in, skin-on chicken breast, margarine instead of butter, homemade chicken stock instead of water and Kraft Cattleman BBQ sauce. OMG, I could have drank the sauce. I served it with Knorr Pasta Sides(chicken), tangy cucumber salad, Texas toast and lime sherbet with sugar cookies for dessert. This recipe works on so many levels: Only 5 ingredients, delicious and so-o-o-o easy only 15 minutes actual work time the rest of the time it simmers. I am giving you a medal. This one goes in the cookbook I am putting together for my girls. THANK YOU

I have been making this recipe for years and I have never used any oil, just butter. The butter has never burned, and it's a great recipe. 5 STARS!!

Thankfully I knew enough to heat OIL first then add some butter! How come all these folks who raved about this recipe didn't notice the butter burning? As butter always will when it is heated hot enough to fry chicken.
I want real recipes, not faux recipes from people who lack basic cooking knowledge.

I love the way the chicken browned up in the butter and I used some olive oil also. I also used Emeril's sweet BBQ Bam sauce. It is really awesome!!
I definitely will use this one again, the real secret is browning the chicken first.

This was delicious - we want to try it using other sauces in the place of the bbq sauce. I'm sure you could make all kinds of wonderful variations on this!
