Servings
Original recipe makes 6
1 poundground beef
1/2 cupuncooked long grain white rice
1 cupwater
6 green bell peppers
2 canstomato sauce
1 tablespoonWorcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoongarlic powder
1/4 teaspoononion powder; to taste
1 teaspoonItalian seasoning

Stuffed Peppers Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Place the rice and water in a saucepan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and cook 20 minutes. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the beef until evenly browned.

Remove and discard the tops, seeds, and membranes of the bell peppers. Arrange peppers in a baking dish with the hollowed sides facing upward. (Slice the bottoms of the peppers if necessary so that they will stand upright.)

In a bowl, mix the browned beef, cooked rice, 1 can tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Spoon an equal amount of the mixture into each hollowed pepper. Mix the remaining tomato sauce and Italian seasoning in a bowl, and pour over the stuffed peppers.

Bake 1 hour in the preheated oven, basting with sauce every 15 minutes, until the peppers are tender.

It came out great. I could have added a little more water to the pan so they wouldn't dry out but I made it cheesy and very delicious!

I used Sloppy Joe sauce in place of last 5 ingredients and my husband said it was the best stuffed peppers he ever had. It also made 6 overstuffed peppers for me- two of which I used red peppers to make.

We don't like cooked peppers so I made some meatballs in peppers and made meatballs around them. I would use some chopped peppers in the meat mixture next time.

I used 4 red bell peppers. I also added a quarter cup feta cheese, 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes, and 1/2 tsp. cajun spice. Turned out pretty good.
