An Old Family Favorite...my father's meatloaf recipe is easy to make, moist and flavorful. I don't consider it to be unique or unusual, as it is just a very delicious, balanced recipe. The soft fresh bread crumbs, evaporated milk and egg combine to make it less dense and the parsley adds a nice taste. The free-form shape adds a touch of rustic charm. Often times, my father will use rye or sourdough bread for making his crumbs, making for a subtle yet interesting change of taste. Leftovers, if there are any, make a delicious hearty sandwich the next day.
Cuisine: American Main Ingredient: Ground Beef
mhig ,Just made this tonight and it's a keeper for sure. Very moist and tasteful and everyone loved it.12y
terik1972 ,Used 1/2 chuck and 1/2 venison, doubled the peppers, onions and glaze. Used crunched up saltines. No gamey taste whatsoever. My BF HATES meatloaf and even he went back for seconds. Love your recipes.12y
jaxlin19 ,Sgrishka... You have had some spectacular dishes! I cant wait to stumble upon more!!! Again, thanks for sharing!12y
peachesncream ,Best meatloaf we've ever had! I found this recipe last year and I've made it several times. everyone has seconds it's so good! I substitute Progresso Italian bread crumbs and corn syrup in place of honey and Valentina in place of red pepper sauce.12y
firebyrd ,Well, remade this like I said I would all those months ago with some trepidation, but this time I was prepared with some dayold greek bread from my trusty bread machine =P It did wonders for the consistency issues it suffered last time, as did using whole milk. Also doubled the glaze. I'm glad I gave this another chance!12y
piptipping ,Fabulous meatloaf, my son loved it, said it was the nicest thing he had ever had, will def be on my menu loads, reduced brown sugar down to 1 tsp though, maybe cause we are English and don't like it too sweet but may increase a little bit more next time12y
ljudah ,Wow, I just made this literally 2 hours ago and it's so delicious. This will be my go-to recipe from now on.12y
jordanperks ,I made the meatloaf exactly as indicated in the recipe. I this now my favorite dish I have ever made. I was so impressed with it I brought it to some others to try and they were blown away. This will now be in regular rotation. Does anyone know how well this will freeze if I make extra?12y
klkn ,I used store bought bread crumbs, about one cup. Omitted the green pepper, used three cloves of garlic. Being gentle with the ground beef resulted in a wonderful moist meatloaf. Husband very disappointed there weren't any leftovers. Served with sour cream mashed potatoes and a veggie.12y
klkn ,Excellent! I glazed the meatloaf a couple of times during the cooking. Added slices of tomato in the last 10 to 15 minutes and covered with cheese.12y
ullxneverxknow ,I served this to my extremely temperamental cousin and even she loved it. 5 STARS! Loved it.12y
nathanmena ,This is a delicious recipe. I followed the directions exactly as written. It was easy to prepare and probably one of the tastiest meatloafs I've ever made.12y
jojoshoes ,I'd been craving comfort food and this fit the bill! Had to use shallots instead of onion because I'd run out but the flavor was wonderful! I'll be trying this again, maybe with brown gravy instead of the glaze sometime.12y
deedee43232 ,This was my first meatloaf I've ever made and it was excellent. My husband made me make extra sauce for leftovers and he said it really made the dish. Thank you12y
firebyrd ,Not bad, not terrific either. The flavors were all right, but the texture was way off. The perfect meatloaf texture is tender and not too dense; this one is mushy and bakes up spongy. The 2nd batch was edible however thanks to an addition of 2 extra slices of bread, decreasing the stir-fried vegetables to 1 cup, the molasses to 1 tablespoon, and milk to 1/4 cup. Next time will simply try upping the ground beef to 2 lbs, but all I had purchased this time was the 1 1/2. As for the fail first loaf, I used it to liven up a jar of pasta sauce I had floating around in the pantry for a tasty spaghetti & meat sauce lunch!12y
