I have followed dozens of recipes for this dish and have combined the things I like from some and left out some stuff from others to perfect this dish.
"I love Stroganoff, and this recipe was good. Easy to make with ingreadients I had in the house. Except I was short on the amount of sour cream I had in the fridge. My sauce was looking pretty thick, (plus I had more than a pound of meat), so I added about 1/2 can mushroom soup and a few table spoons of milk to get to the right consistancy. Then I always add a couple splashes of white wine to my stroanoff. Thank you. It pleased my whole family."- rjhalvor

Fry bacon and move to paper towel.
Dredge meat in flour (fry in bacon grease to brown). Saute onion for 2 minutes, add garlic and saute 1 more minute. Add water, bring to boil. add builion cube, worcestershire sauce, nutmeg, pepper & seasoned salt.
Stir and return to boil. Simmer till fork tender about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, adding water as needed. Add mushrooms, heat until they shrink a little. Fold in sour cream, heat thru but do not return to boil. Sprinkle bacon over top and server over wide egg noodles.

heatherschackniesteske 3 months agoThis has become THEE Stroganoff dinner at my house. I'm a newlywed and this is my husbands favorite meal. I tried several different recipes for stroganoff but they didn't pan out. this one is wonderful, easy to do and actually tops his mother's recipe for it :-) I don't put mushrooms....
mogriff1 3 months agoHubby really likes when I make this dish. It really is tasty. I make a few changes though...I use beef stock, ground turkey, use 3 cloves of garlic, 1/2 the nutmeg & I omit the bacon and mushrooms. I also added a little cornstarch in the end to thicken.

Lilyblossom25 5 months agoThis is just a slightly different, more involved version of what my husband and I already cook. Going to try it tonight and see what he says! :)
tlbarker72 5 months agoThis stroganoff is absolutely delicious!! I left out the nutmeg (because I'm not fond of it in savory dishes), and the bacon, since I didn't have any. Instead of water I used beef stock. Otherwise I made it exactly as written. I have tried several stroganoff recipes, and I have finally found a definite keeper. Thanks for a great recipe!
harrietgriffin 5 months agoWas super yummy! Need a good non-stick pan though for the steak :p Everyone very much enjoyed it, added more bacon and mushrooms. Steak is nice as something diff but can do without too
pwrpufgirlz 5 months agoYum! Made it without nutmeg and used deer steak and none was left, it was so good!

B00tles 6 months agoThis was delicious! I doubled the onion & mushrooms and topped with parsley, after reading the reviews and found it to be quite flavorful. I hadn't budgeted my time well, so it was a surprise to find that it took 1.5-2hrs of simmering before tender enough to eat, but I will make this again.
B00ts 7 months agoGreat recipe I only added 1/2 cup of red wine. Fantastic.
dharmon10 7 months agoYum! I didn't use the nutmeg because I don't like it but doesn't matter because it was awesome! Thanks.
Ezmerilda 7 months agoGoing into my 'repeat' file. This turned out wonderfully done with venison roast (sliced...) in the crock pot. The house smelled incredible when we walked in, added mushrooms while the noodles cooked, then the sour cream last minute. Oh yes!
Longwalker 7 months agoThis is a great recipe...great for a Sunday when I have time for the simmer wait. I added a cup of red cooking wine to the water and added season salt to the flour dredge. Meat was tender and juicy.
