This is an old family favorite.

My father was a kitchen designer. One of his customers liked her kitchen so much, she gave him this recipe as a thank you. My mother has been making this for over thirty years.

While there are many Irish Bread recipes out there this is the only one I've seen calling for Grape Nuts, or All Bran Buds.

Original recipe makes 2
1 cupPost Grape Nuts or All Bran Buds
1 1/2 cupsoatmeal; dry
1 cupSugar
1 boxRaisins
1 teaspoonBaking soda
6 teaspoonsBaking Powder
3 1/2 cupsFlour
2 1/2 cupssour milk; use 3 tbsp. vinegar
1 mediumEgg

Irish Bread Preparation

Steam raisins and let cool.

Mix dry ingredients together and add raisins.

Mix well and add milk and egg.

Put in two greased loaf pans and bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Serve with butter or cream cheese.
