Original recipe makes 4
1 packagedried mixed fruit
1 cupgolden raisins; or substitute any combination of dried fruits
1 tablespoonorange zest
1 cuporange juice
2 stickscinnamon
2 tablespoonsbrandy; (optional)

Winter Dried Fruit Compote Preparation

Cut dried fruit into bite-sized pieces.Combine all ingredients (except brandy) in medium saucepan. Cook gently over medium heat until fruit is soft and tender and liquid is mostly absorbed. Add more orange juice, if necessary. Add brandy, if using, during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Remove cinnamon sticks. Serve with crème fraiche, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.

Experiment with craisins, apricots, dates or any of your favorite dried fruit. Also try different flavors of juice, or use vanilla instead of brandy. [I posted this recipe.]
