3 tbspolive oil
3 cupsYellow onion; chopped
1 tbspSugar
3 tbspGarlic; about 6 cloves, minced
2 tspSalt
2 tspDried basil
1 1/2 tspDried Oregano
1 tspDried thyme
1 tspBlack Pepper; freshly ground
1/2 tspCrushed fennell seeds
2 cupsFat free - less-sodium chicken broth
3 28-oz cansNo-salt added crushed tomatos

Basic Marinara Sauce - Cooking Light Preparation

1. Heat oil in a large dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion to pan; cook 4 minutes, stirring frequently. Add sugar and next 7 ingredients (though fennel seeds); cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Stir in vinegar; cook 30 seconds. Add broth and tomatoes; bring to a simmer. Cook over low head for 55 minutes or until sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.

Yield: about 12 cups

Serving size: 1/2 cup
