Original recipe makes 6
2 poundsStew meat
1 mediumOnion
1 tablespoonGarlic; minced
1/4 cupShortening
1 1/2 cupWater
1/2 teaspoonMustard
3/4 cupKetchup
2 tablespoonWorcestershire Sauce
1 tablespoonBrown sugar
2 teaspoonSalt
2 teaspoonPaprika
Cayenne; optional

Peasant Goulash (hungarian) Preparation

Cook Meat, onion & garlic in shortening, drain. Add the remaining ingredients.

Heat to boiling, reduce, cover and simmer until tender 2-2 1/2 hrs.

Mix together 1/4 c water & 2 T flour and stir into mixture at the end, boil and stir for 1 min, serve over egg noodles.

I'm from the Magyar orsag and this is definately not a hungarian recipe. Porkolt does not and never has had mustard , kepsup , sugar of any kind or wosters---e sauce . It may be 'filling' but it sure isn't hungarian .

Okay, so it's not AUTHENTIC Hungarian food. Here in America, foods are inspired by culture, not ruled by them. Much like most of this country. Seriously, I would be hard pressed to find any truly authentic foods here. Many cuisines have 'Western' versions of their menus for American palettes. I apologize for any offense. There was truly none meant. [I posted this recipe.]
