Pre-Heat oven 450 degrees F
Mix Salt and Flour
Mix in Shortening until resembles crumbs
Sprinkle in Cold Water tbsp at a time until dough pulls together
Form into a ball, wrap with plastic or wax paper, and leave in fridge for 30 mins
Mix Sugar, Ground Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Grated Lemon Peel, Salt
Peel and Cut apples (medium chunks)
Mix apples into the Sugar mix, coat each slice of apple evenly
Remove dough from fridge and separate into two parts.
Roll out one half and fit at the bottom of pie plate for bottom crust.
Place evenly coated apple slices into the pie plate after the dough
Sprinkle a dash of Cinnamon and Nutmeg
Even slice out the Butter stick on top of the filling evenly
Roll out second half of dough place on top of entire pie
Cut over laying sides
Thicken the edge crush with remainder dough
Cut small openings on top of pie
Mix egg white and milk into a small bowl
Brush mixture on top of entire pie
Sprinkle Cinnamon and Nutmeg
Put into the oven for 40-50mins
Keep a watch on your pie.
After 45mins turn heat to 250 degrees F
watch for another 5-10 minutes

glorystahley 1 year agoMy pie came out perfect! I made it a day ahead and baked it at 400 for 45 minutes and then heated it up at 350 for about 20 mins prior to eating! It was delicious

Honey77 1 year agoThe hardest part was the crust...difficult to roll it out. I used brown sugar instead of regular & it was a big hit with my family!
OtterGuy 1 year agoThis recipe makes a delicious pie. However, I've tried it twice and both times ended up with a slightly burned crust. I recommend using a lower temp- maybe 400 or 425.
dbmcleish 2 years agoI don't like apple pie - but every one in my family does. They asked for a pie for Thanksgiving, and this one did not disappoint! This recipe makes me LOVE apple pie!!! Best crust I've made from scratch!

CuisineJazzy 3 years agoFirst apple pie I've ever made and the hubby loves it! I made this recipe in double and the crust was way dry, so I added some egg white and milk (by error) but it ended up being fine and much better texture. Thanks!
