This is definitely the BEST mac n cheese recipe ever! The last time I made it, I didn't have the fontina cheese so I just doubled up on the others and it was still great with just a little less bite to it. I also had some leftover topping I had made with a can of onion rings sauted lighltly with pecans and threw that on top - WOW !! It was awesome. Now we take the leftovers and add leftover ham (for the meat lovers in the fam) and it's great. it's become a "go to" meal for me monthly!!

Very, very good. I used Swiss, white American, parmesan and sharp cheddar cheeses because that is what I had on hand. I added cubed ham.

Half & half is a type of liquid cream. Comes in a paper milk carton in the dairy section. Makes things creamier & richer.

I did this mac & cheese and it truly was awesome! My family of foodies ate this up and there wasn't enough to go around because of how quickly it went! I'm making this again for Thanksgiving. Delicious!

I've been experimenting with m&cheese recipes and this is best!! Made it for a group of friends and it disappeared!! These 4 cheeses are the best combination of flavors. Yoy cant go wrong with this one!!

Absolutely Fantastic, no more boxed Mac and Cheese for us, I added Diced Ham and forgot to put in Worchestershire Sauce, it was still very good.

This was truly one of the best mac and cheese ever. I cut the receipe in half to make for my fiance and I last night and it worked out nicely. I would recommend using very little olive oil w/ the pasta because the cheese used is already a very oily cheese. Next time we're going to try it w/ gouda in place of the gruyere for a different taste. Happy cooking :0)

I used mozzarella and provolone Cheese instead of fontina and gruyere cheese and It was still great.

It's been many years since I tasted this type of mac and cheese.....at a Colonial Cafeteria. I did change the parmesan and fontina cheeses. Didn't have those soI used what I had...swiss, smoked provolone and muenster cheeses in place of the other cheeses (besides Cheddar). Also, I accidentally doubled the amount of eggs. And used 2 cups of whipping cream and one cup of milk. Just because I didn't want to have left over cream.

This recipe was delicious, although incredibly rich, even on a cold night. The top came out crispy and the inside stayed creamy!

First time making this. It was easy and soooo good. The only downfall is that it's a little pricey buying all the different cheeses.

The instructions were very thorough, but the cheese selection makes for a fairly tart dish. Reducing the amount of Grueyre and adding Mild cheddar might smooth the taste and maybe add some robustness we felt it was lacking. However more cheddar means more oil. If you time it so your cheese melt and your past is ready at the same time, I would leave out the olive oil as it made it a bit oily after baking.
