This is definitely the BEST mac n cheese recipe ever! The last time I made it, I didn't have the fontina cheese so I just doubled up on the others and it was still great with just a little less bite to it. I also had some leftover topping I had made with a can of onion rings sauted lighltly with pecans and threw that on top - WOW !! It was awesome. Now we take the leftovers and add leftover ham (for the meat lovers in the fam) and it's great. it's become a "go to" meal for me monthly!!
I did this mac & cheese and it truly was awesome! My family of foodies ate this up and there wasn't enough to go around because of how quickly it went! I'm making this again for Thanksgiving. Delicious!
I've been experimenting with m&cheese recipes and this is best!! Made it for a group of friends and it disappeared!! These 4 cheeses are the best combination of flavors. Yoy cant go wrong with this one!!
This was truly one of the best mac and cheese ever. I cut the receipe in half to make for my fiance and I last night and it worked out nicely. I would recommend using very little olive oil w/ the pasta because the cheese used is already a very oily cheese. Next time we're going to try it w/ gouda in place of the gruyere for a different taste. Happy cooking :0)
It's been many years since I tasted this type of mac and cheese.....at a Colonial Cafeteria. I did change the parmesan and fontina cheeses. Didn't have those soI used what I had...swiss, smoked provolone and muenster cheeses in place of the other cheeses (besides Cheddar). Also, I accidentally doubled the amount of eggs. And used 2 cups of whipping cream and one cup of milk. Just because I didn't want to have left over cream.
