tainsworth5 ,I've made this recipe several times now. I added semi sweet chocolate chips which was a plus as well. I did add the pecans to the top and we weren't disapointed. Added a splash more rum to the cake and an extra 1/4th cup to the glaze. My family loves this recipe.2y
herpaderp88 ,With a few adjustments right off the bat, this made an unbelievably good cake. 1) Buy two boxes of cake mix- you can't buy 18.25 oz boxes anymore so use that kitchen scale and some mix from the second box to get you to the right weight. 2) Stir in about 3/4 cup of chocolate chips to the batter after step 4 (TRUST ME JUST DO IT) 3) Don't put nuts on a cake! 4) add an extra little splash of rum to the glaze because why not. 5) After cake has cooled, keep it covered with plastic wrap or a lid so the rum does not evaporate out2y
bzcookie ,I have baked this cake at least a dozen times. I have only tweaked it with three changes. 1st, I use pistachio pudding instead of chocolate. I'm sort of a nut freak and the pistachio adds a different twist. 2nd, I use walnuts instead of pecans. 1/3 cup in the bottom of the pan, and 1/4 cup in the batter itself. Lastly, I make the syrup, and add the rum just before pouring it over the cake. It cooks out less of the alcohol this way, making the rum a little more potent. This truly is a great cake. Better than the one I bought in Nassau.4y

beemo63 ,I added a half cup of rum to the sauce, plus add a cup of semi sweet chocolate chips to the batter. Make sure you toss them in flour first so they don't sink to the bottom of the cake. Also to really make the chocolate pop add a 1/4th tsp. of instant coffee to the batter too. Delishioso!!9y
sboston ,After vacationing in Bermuda and having rum cake there, this is by far the best chocolate rum cake. I used spiced rum and added more into the glaze after it was finished. All approvals for the Christmas party.9y

cpbluerider ,My man and I about devoured this entire cake in one weekend, it was superb! He modified the batter recipe to delete the water and increase the rum to one full cup...wowsa! We served it topped with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. Be careful, this stuff's addictive! <313y
