This is an old family favorite Oatmeal Cookie recipe. The secret to this recipe is that you simmer the raisins in water before adding them to the cookie batter so you have nice plump raisins. These are a soft delicious cookie. Try them! :)

"These are alot more flavorful than the generic oatmeal raisin you get around town. I made the recipe exactly as instructed. Next time, I will parboil the oatmeal a bit because it was a little too underdone for our taste, but not bad by any means. Will definitely make these again!"

Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies from Angelett Preparation

Simmer raisins in water until plump about 15 minutes. Drain liquid into a cup and add enough water to make 1/2 cup of liquid. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla, stir in liquid. Sift together the dry ingredients ( I just use a wisk) mix the dry ingredients with the shortening etc. Add the oats, nuts and raisins. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased or lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 or until golden brown. Depending on size of your spoonfuls. I use a little less than a 2 tablespoon scoop and I make 34 cookies.

Just made this and I will say awesome. I added another cup of raisins along with more water and next time I will cut back on the cloves just a touch. Otherwise moist and chewy!!

I substituted coconut oil since I don't eat shortening. I will parboil the oats a little next time but the cookies were great.

The taste of it is quite good, but the texture is not so chewy.

We have a batch in the cookie jar right now. I have always made oatmeal raisin cookies but I have never added nuts to them. I love the walnuts! Great Idea. I will do this from now on.... Thanks for the tip....
