Original recipe makes 16
1 cupSteel-cut oats
4 tbsUnsalted butter
4 cupsWater
3 cupsOld-fashioned rolled oats
3/4 cupBrown sugar; light or dark
1 1/2 cupsApple; diced (one large)
1/2 cupDried apricots; diced
1/4 cupCrystallized ginger; diced
1 teaspoonSalt
2 teaspoonsCinnamon
1/4 teaspoonNutmeg
2 largeEggs
1/2 cupmilk
1 teaspoonVanilla

Baked Oatmeal Preparation

Preheat oven to 350.

Butter 9x13 baking dish.

Place steel-cut oats and butter in a large bowl.

Bring water to a boil and pour over oats.

Cover for 20 minutes.

Add remaining ingredients to the oat-and-butter mixture. Stir until well blended.

Transfer to the 9x13 baking dish.

Bake 35 - 40 minutes, until the center is set.

Remove and serve warm or cold.

Notes

Can also be served warm with whipped cream for dessert.
