Recipes »  Main Dish  »  Main Dish - Other

This recipe is very close to your favorite Mexican restaurant's marinade. I let the meat marinade for an hour.

"Made this with steak and prawns just threw the prawns in at the end I have now made this 4 times for different friends and they all love it making it again tonight for dinner and I can't wait best I've ever had thank you for sharing" - Lianne87

Servings
Original recipe makes 6 Servings
2 Boneless Chicken breast; or 3/4 lb top sirloin steak
2 tablespoonsolive oil
1 tablespoonLime juice
1 clovegarlic; finely minced
1/2 teaspoonChili powder
1/2 teaspoonCumin
1/2 teaspoonhot pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoonBlack pepper
1/2 teaspoonSalt
1 green pepper
1/4 tsCayenne pepper; or to taste
1 spanish onion
1 dashliquid smoke
1 dashbalsamic vinegar
1 dashsugar; to carmelize the meat

Chicken Fajitas Or Steak Preparation

Slice chicken or steak into thin strips.

In bowl, mix together 1 tablespoons olive oil, lime juice, garlic, chili powder, cumin, hot pepper flakes, black pepper & salt, liquid smoke, and balsamic vinegar

Add beef strips and stir to coat, set aside.

Wrap tortillas in foil and place in 350 degree oven for 5-10 minutes or until heated through.

Cut onions in half lengthwise and slice into strips, cut your peppers into strips.

In large non stick grill pan or skillet over medium high heat, heat remaining tablespoons of olive oil.

Add onions & peppers stirring for 3-4 minutes, until softened; transfer to a bowl and set aside.

Turn the heat to high, add chicken or beef to skillet, cook, stirring for 3-4 minutes or until they lose their red color, add dash of sugar to carmelize. I like to let the meat char a bit

Return onions and peppers to skillet; stir for about one minute.

To serve, spoon a portion of the beef mixture down the centre of each tortilla, top with your desired toppings , fold bottom of tortilla up over filling, fold the sides in, overlapping.

Left out the hot pepper flakes and liquid smoke. Also substituted lemon juice for the lime juice and red onion instead of Spanish onion. Still came out absolutely delicious. Wiko

Very tasty and seasoned fine. We don't use liquid smoke so left it off, and used worschestershire instead with chicken. This will be a repeater :)

I made this tonight. I substituted cayenne pepper for the red pepper flakes. Turned out wonderfully. Kids and I give it five-star. Adding this one to my favorites and will definitely be making again.

The main ingredient I tasted was the cumin. It overwhelmed the dish. I omitted the red pepper flakes to cut the heat back. Other than that it was ok.

Very good. I used everything except the liquid smoke and it was still tasty. I used chicken this time, I want to try steak the next time around. I like to make quick dinners on Saturdays since I get home late and this was perfect.

Left out the chili flakes so the toddlers could eat it. A great, quick, and easy recipe but the right tools are important.
