Garlic chili prawns

Recipes »  Main Dish  »  Fish and Shellfish

I used to always order this at my favourite restuarant, until I perfected the recipe myself, now I make it at home!

2 lbsprawns; peeled, tails on
2 clovesgarlic; crushed, or more if desired
1 tbspchili flakes; or use chopped fresh chili
1 largeonion; peeled and chopped
2 tbspbutter
2 tbspflour
3 cupsmilk
1 pinchSalt; to taste
2 tbspparsley; finely chopped

Garlic chili prawns Preparation

Saute the onion in the butter until it is just beginning to soften, then add garlic and cook over medium heat for one or two minutes, do not let it brown. Stir in the flour and cook for one minute, then remove from heat and stir in the milk, slowly at first and then quicker as it all mixes together. I like to use a whisk for this. Place back over medium heat and stir until thickened. Add chili flakes and salt to taste, and then stir in prawns and heat until hot. Pour over cooked basmati rice. Sprinkle with chopped parsley

Served with steak, was delicious!

Didn't love this. Was hoping for something different and spicy but got plain and bland instead. It wasn't bad but it just didn't have much flavour despite me putting in much more chili than it called for.

This recipe is also good with scallops instead of the prawns. [I posted this recipe.]
