Original recipe makes 6
2 cupsall-purpose flour
1/2 cupinstant nonfat dry milk
1 tablespoonbaking powder
1/2 teaspoonSalt
2 tablespoonslard; or shortening
3/4 cupWater
oil; to fry in

Easy Navajo Fry Bread Preparation

In a large bowl stir flour, dry milk, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening or lard until mixture is like cornmeal. Add water, stirring with a fork until it clings together. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 5 minutes). Divide into 6 balls. Press each ball out. Fry in 1 inch of hot oil browning both sides until crispy.

I posted this recipe, and we love it at our house. It's a quick easy way to make a soft navajo fry bread that stays soft after frying. We love to make extras and whip up some maple frosting to put on them for desert.

When we make these, we will often make extras that we use for desert with a simple maple frosting (butter, icing sugar, and maple flavoring). They are a family favorite and always turn out nice and fluffy and taste great. [I posted this recipe.]
