Marinate dates with Rum, vanilla and bicarb for 15 - 20mins
Cream butter and sugar well.
Slowly add each egg - beating well after each addition.
Lightly fold in sifted flour with toasted pecans and date mixture.
Prepare steaming pot as normal.
Steam in water filled saucepan for 2 - 3 hours over low heat.
Place all ingredients in small saucepan and heat slowly - stirring until all ingredients are combined.
Simmer slowly for 5 mins until sauce thickens.
Drizzle some of the sauce over the pudding whilst it is still hot.
Top with strawberries and extra nuts and lightly dust with icing sugar
Serve with extra sauce and fresh cream.
